Parent guidance

Parent guidance is a space of caring support for parents who wish to better understand their children, strengthen the family bond and regain more serenity in everyday life.

Rather than looking for “recipes,” it is a path of awareness, listening and presence — an invitation to reconnect with yourself in order to better support your child.

Our approach

Our approach draws on Gestalt therapy, positive psychology, positive discipline and the Aware Parenting model developed by Aletha Solter.

These perspectives share the same conviction: children develop harmoniously when their emotions are acknowledged, when limits are set with respect, and when the relationship is founded on authenticity rather than control.

In Gestalt therapy, we value conscious presence and the quality of contact — truly being there with your child, welcoming what they experience without judgment, while staying grounded in your own limits and needs.

Positive psychology invites us to recognize the strengths, resilience and resources of each family member.

Positive discipline encourages caring firmness: guiding without punishing, empowering without humiliating.

And Aware Parenting proposes accompanying a child’s intense emotions — crying, anger, frustration — as natural opportunities for release and growth, rather than as behaviours to be silenced.

Who is it for?

Parent guidance is for parents who wish to:

  • better understand their children’s emotional needs
  • support crises, tears and opposition with more calm and empathy
  • strengthen cooperation and mutual respect at home
  • break out of cycles of guilt, shouting or punishment
  • rediscover enjoyment and confidence in the parent-child relationship.

Format

Sessions are spaces of reflection and experimentation.

They may include discussions, role-play, emotional readings, or concrete tools to put into practice at home.

Meetings take place:

  • In person in Sherbrooke, in collaboration with Apogei Clinique
  • or online, via Zoom or another secure platform.

Each session lasts between 50 minutes and 1 h 40, alone or as a parental couple.

Professional framework

Group psychotherapy activities are offered under the professional responsibility of

Helena Pinheiro Jucá Vasconcelos, psychologist (OPQ #15704-25), founder and executive director of the Gestalt Therapy Institute of Sherbrooke. The Institute is a clinical and educational initiative aimed at promoting a humanistic approach to psychotherapy.

Fees are set according to the recommendations of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec.

The applicable rate will be provided to you at first contact.
